CF: Milan officially halt San Donato stadium plan – youth ‘citadel’ a possibility

When AC Milan were looking for a new stadium plan, San Donato emerged as a favourable option. However, it is not the plan that will be used.

A lot of money has been pumped into the San Donato project, and it seemed that it would be the new home of Milan, moving away from San Siro. Despite the investment, though, and the extended planning, it is no longer the case.

After initial evaluations put the project into the billions, it just became unfeasible, and since then, the Rossoneri have moved forward with the decision to buy San Siro and move to a new stadium.

The project is considerably cheaper, and there is more political support for this idea than there was for the San Donato move, which also plays a part.

What to do with San Donato?

So, since the decision, the question has been, ‘what do Milan do with San Donato?’ Finding an answer has certainly not been simple, and there have been a number of different ideas put forward; now a new one is being reported.

As Calcio e Finanza reports, the plans for San Donato have now been officially halted, but the willingness to commit to a new project has been shown.

Instead of a Serie A stadium, the idea of creating a new host for the youth academy is gaining traction, with a full ‘citadel’ possible, including ‘a range of amenities’.
