Chelsea sent brutal Liam Rosenior sack demand after Everton defeat - 'Something has to change'

Liam Rosenior's Chelsea side have lost four matches on the bounce and there has been plenty of noise regarding whether he is the right man to take this Blues side forward

Emmanuel Petit has claimed "something needs to change" at Chelsea and has questioned Liam Rosenior's appointment as head coach in January.

Rosenior was handed a six-year contract at Stamford Bridge on January 6, taking over from Enzo Maresca after his dramatic departure on New Year's Day. Since Rosenior's appointment, his Chelsea side have played 19 matches in all competitions, winning 10, losing seven and drawing two.

The last four matches have all been defeats and that has left a sour taste in Chelsea mouths going into the international break. Whenever a team loses four games on the bounce, there is immediate noise around the manager's future.

That is no exception this time around. Petit, who represented Chelsea from 2001 until 2004, has called for change to happen at Stamford Bridge but believes young, promising managers like Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas might not be too interested in taking Rosenior's job if he was to depart.

"The main trouble at Chelsea is probably the defence," Petit explained to BetGoat. "They have many, many issues, but the main problem is the defence. They concede too many goals. They have lost too many games at home and are probably one of the most average teams at home in the Premier League.

"I think they are 12th in the table at home. Chelsea, come on. And they are the second-best team away from home. So this is an indication.

"And honestly, I don't want to criticise him, but I think after Enzo Maresca left the club, they decided to take someone who was doing a great job at Strasbourg.

"I think the dimension of Strasbourg fits perfectly with Rosenior. Giving him the responsibility of such a huge club like Chelsea is a huge step, especially after taking charge after Maresca left the club.

"I have no idea if he's going to stay at the end of the season, but to be honest with you, something has to change. I think the American owners must understand we respect, and I have huge respect for those who put the money on the table, but in the end, don't put your nose in matters that you don't understand.

"Football is a serious matter for so many people, and you are trying to make business all the time, which means the Chelsea fans are tired of it. They don't want business at the club, they want success.

"You have good players, but at the moment, those players, honestly, I'm pretty sure that this morning when they woke up, they felt very tired in their mind, psychologically. Maybe some of them are thinking privately, 'I'm so tired of playing in this club. There is no vision. We don't know what to do. I think it's like we are taking it game after game. We have no vision.'

"Starting from the start of the season, what is the vision in terms of sport as well, with the manager? What is the vision? How are we going to play? When you look at Rosenior against PSG and they played three at the back, come on.

"Have you seen against which team you're playing? Who are the strikers at Paris Saint-Germain? Those guys, they kill you. One against one, they kill you. And you play three at the back? Really?"

On potential replacements for Rosenior, Petit added: "There are some very interesting managers out there. I think it's the same with Manchester United. They know that Chelsea and Manchester are big clubs. But who would be interested in coming, thinking that I don't have the power to do what I want?

"Simple as that. I think Cesc Fabregas is doing a great job at Como. Actually, they are at the top, on course to play in the Champions League. Can you imagine that? Como, they come from nowhere and all of a sudden they are probably going to play in the Champions League next season.

"It's quite the same thing with Xabi Alonso. He was doing a great job in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen. But it was probably too soon for him to go to Real Madrid. And on top of it, Real Madrid don't want a manager with a vision.

"They want a big, big manager with a big personality who can manage the dressing room. And this is something different.

"I think Alonso and Fabregas are very interesting prospects. But would they be interested to manage Chelsea if they don't have the power to do what they want to do? I don't think so.

"So, that's why I am coming back to what I have said before. Todd Boehly and Co. they have to think about it with a lot of attention because they have to accept that you are here for business, okay, I'm here for the football. And I will help you to do business, but give me the power to do what I think in terms of football."
