Chelsea are considering their options in the January transfer window with numerous centre-backs being looked at by the club, football.london understands.

This month is not expected to be too busy for the Blues in terms of incomings, and they will only move for a central defender should they believe they are the right fit for Liam Rosenior's squad. Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet is someone officials at Stamford Bridge are fans of, with the 20-year-old impressing in his 17 appearances for the French club this season.

Como centre-back Jacobo Ramon is another defender who has been discussed internally at Chelsea. The 21-year-old Spaniard has flourished playing under former Blues midfielder Cesc Fabregas in Italy this term and is thought to have admirers from around Europe.

While both young defenders are appreciated at Stamford Bridge, there is no guarantee Chelsea will move for a centre-back in the January window. The club want to ensure whoever they do eventually move for, whether that be this month or in the summer, they are the right fit. This sentiment is shared by newly-appointed head coach Rosenior.

"I think if we do, it needs to be the right player," Rosenior said on Thursday afternoon when asked if the Blues need to strengthen this month. "We need to be patient. I want to assess the group - it's really, really important to me.

"I like to give the players I work with a chance to show some good surprises. We still have time. We have conversations every day, myself and the board, about potential transfers, both out and in, but at the same time, I need to focus on the players in the building. If I feel it's the right time or the right player, then we'll make that decision."

Chelsea tried to sign Dean Huijsen last summer but the former Bournemouth defender ended up moving to Real Madrid for £50million. The Blues scoured the market to bring a new centre-back to the club but decided against it in the end.

Rosenior currently has Trevoh Chalobah, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo and Josh Acheampong as his options in the centre of defence. Axel Disasi is not involved in the first-team picture at this moment in time, while Levi Colwill is expected to be out for the majority of the season after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury last summer.

Elsewhere, Facundo Buonanotte's loan deal at Stamford Bridge has been terminated. The 21-year-old was signed on a season-long loan deal from Brighton in the summer but featured just eight times for the Blues in all competitions - with only one of them coming in the Premier League - and has now joined Leeds United until the end of the season, as football.london reported earlier on Thursday.
