Cole Palmer will be hoping to return to his best for Chelsea when the Blues face Manchester City this weekend

Tosin Adarabioyo has backed Cole Palmer to return to his best ahead of Chelsea's Premier League clash against Manchester City this weekend.

The Blues have not won in the league since the 4-1 victory at Aston Villa on March 4 and really need to pick up some points when Pep Guardiola's side come to London on Sunday. The west Londoners are currently sixth in the league, one point behind Liverpool in fifth and six points behind Villa in sixth.

With seven league games to play, Tosin has called on the Chelsea squad to focus as the race to qualify for the Champions League heats up.

"We’re just looking forward to the game and getting the job done against Manchester City," the defender said. "Hopefully, we get the three points, but we need to prepare now and that is our focus."

One player who could be crucial between now and the end of the season is Palmer. The 23-year-old, who made the move from City in a deal worth £42.5million in September 2023, has struggled with injuries this term but now appears to be finding some form.

"It’s football, people go through different spells of form," Tosin said of Palmer. "If you know Cole, you know he’s a relaxed guy, but he is ambitious and wants to be the best. That is what he’s striving for.

"He’s a top player and always has good games, but he also knows he can always improve. When he hits his level, he’s one of the best players in the Premier League. So we all believe that and I'm sure he has full confidence in himself."

Palmer has 10 goals and three assists in 26 appearances for Chelsea this season and will be hoping to add to those numbers in the coming weeks. The former Man City man captained the Blues against Port Vale in the FA Cup last Saturday and Tosin was delighted for the attacking midfielder.

"He’s my guy," Tosin added. "He’s always encouraging me and I’m always encouraging him, so it was nice.

"He leads by example. You can see through his performances that he is one of our leaders and one of our best players. So it was nice to see him get the armband."
