Chelsea winger Jamie Gittens is looking forward to facing off against AC Milan, recalling a previous meeting against the Rossoneri.

Milan take on the Club World Cup winners at Stamford Bridge this afternoon in the final preseason friendly, having drawn 1-1 against Leeds United in Dublin yesterday. It is another high-profile test, after the ones against Arsenal and Liverpool in the Far East.

Gittens spoke to the London club’s official channel ahead of the game, having arrived this summer from Borussia Dortmund for over €50m. He has already faced the Rossoneri twice in the Champions League with the German club, and has fond memories of a game at San Siro.

“The Champions League is always a great opportunity, and playing against Milan at San Siro is even greater. It really opened my eyes to this level of football,” he said (via MilanPress).

“That match was good for me, with a goal and an assist. Today’s match will be a little different, obviously, given how Milan play. It will be interesting to play against them because they are a great team with so many great players. It will be a good test.”

That European night he is referring to would ultimately end Milan’s hopes of qualifying for the next phase of the competition, despite then beating Newcastle in the final game.
