Arsenal's teenage goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard has made a big impression on loan with Brabrand IF in Denmark

Brabrand IF hope to hold further talks with Arsenal about the possibility of extending young goalkeeper Lucas Nygaard's loan.

The 19-year-old is due to return to his parent club this summer after spending time building some senior experience back in Scandinavia.

But Nygaard has made such an impression, Brabrand sporting director Andreas Rasch-Christensen has made it clear he'd be interested in keeping the player.

He told Danish outlet Tipsbladet: “We are really happy to have him here, and I will certainly be open to a dialogue about further progress. I think he is doing well and would like to extend such a loan.

“Whether that’s realistic remains to be seen. It hasn’t been discussed with Arsenal yet, but I could imagine that Arsenal has some plans for him. In any case, we’re certainly not uninterested."

Nygaard signed a professional contract with Arsenal in June 2024 after arriving from FC Nordsjaelland.

A decision is likely to be made on his future in the coming months and Rasch-Christensen claims Gunners' officials are poised to travel to Denmark to further assess Nygaard's development very soon. They have already made the trip this season as part of their loan checks.

He added: “The plan is for them to visit very soon. They are following him and have a regular dialogue with our goalkeeping coach and staff in relation to, I suppose, finding out what their plans with him should be.

“Lucas has done well in many ways. First and foremost, he fits in really well as a person, and he thrives. The cooperation has been sensible, and I also think he has managed to develop in the right direction.”

Nygaard has played around 585 minutes in the Danish second tier, making around seven appearances on the road to a ninth-place finish (from a possible 12).

He's kept just one clean sheet, however, that seemingly hasn't put Brabrand off from extending his stay in his homeland.

The goalkeeping prospect sealed his loan move back in September and turned down switches to Juventus, PSG and Monaco to sign for the Gunners.
