CM: A potential €100m at stake – how Milan’s nine loanees are doing so far

3 days ago 39

AC Milan could yet receive a sizeable cash injection from the sales of players that are currently out on loan, though some are more likely than others.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Milan sent a number of players out on loan during the summer transfer window, and many of them included options or even obligations to buy, meaning the club could cash in down the line. How are each doing?

Samuel Chukwueze

Scorer of two goals in the 4-5 win against Manchester City last Tuesday, thanks to a powerful appearance off the bench, Chukwueze is slowly earning Fulham’s trust. They got him for a €2m loan fee towards the end of the summer, with a €28m option to buy.

The former Villarreal man – who will soon in the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria – will also need to be convinced, having signed a contract with Milan until 2028 with a salary of around €4m net per season.

Alex Jimenez

Jimenez has already appeared ten times, including six starts, for Bournemouth. After putting €1.5m on the table for the loan, the club is said to have already considered allocating the €25m to buy him out.

This would be mandatory once the conditions set out in last August’s agreement (a guaranteed number of appearances in all competitions) are met.

Ismael Bennacer

Bennacer has long been out of Milan’s plans despite a contract running until 2027 and a salary of €4m net, so in the summer he chose Dinamo Zagreb as the next step in his career. To date, he has made nine appearances in the Croatian league, after being convinced by Zvonimir Boban.

It’s impossible to predict how things will develop at this time, but given the size of his salary (Milan contribute 60% of the fee), his permanence in Croatia appears complicated at the moment.

Francesco Camarda

Camarda joined Lecce in the hopes of finding greater consistency but has only started four times. Having scored his first Serie A goal against Bologna, the U21 national team striker has the possibility of a permanent buy-out in June.

However, crucially Milan reserved a buy-back option and it is almost certain that they will use that, given how much they are relying on him for the future.

Tommaso Pobega

Milan can already bank on receiving the money for Pobega. Vincenzo Italiano’s second consecutive season at Bologna has been one of consistency, and he has continued to rely upon the Italian.

With a brace against Udinese recently, the €7m obligation to buy is beginning to look like a good deal for the Rossoblu, to which must be added to the €1m paid for the loan.

Lorenzo Colombo

A similar story applies to Lorenzo Colombo, who thanks to the changeover between Vieira and De Rossi has returned to the forefront of Genoa’s plans Milan already begun discussions with the Rossoblu in the summer to agree acceptable terms to make his loan permanent.

With the arrival of De Rossi, the Milan academy product has collected two goals and an assist in his last three games. If his performances help ensure Genoa’s survival at the end of the season, the €10m buy-out option would become automatic.

Yunus Musah

The ongoing situation with Atalanta for Musah is much more complicated. The midfielder made a solid start in Ivan Juric’s first few matches, but has gradually lost his spot since Raffaele Palladino took over from the Croatian.

Milan have already secured €4m from the loan, but for Atalanta to be convinced to pay another €25m to buy him out next June, the American international’s situation would have to change dramatically in the second half of the season.

Warren Bondo

Given he went on a dry loan, Warren Bondo’s return to Milan at the end of the season appears highly likely. Although he’s often been a starter at Cremonese, his potential participation at AFCON with DR Congo will deprive him of the opportunity to further consolidate his position in the midfield hierarchy.

Having arrived on loan and acquired by Milan for €10.5m, the France-born talent will be the subject of a new evaluation by Allegri next summer, either to stay or to be sold at a good price to another team.

Filippo Terracciano

For one player who currently appears unlikely to remain in the red and gray, there’s another who is confident of a permanent move at the end of a season that has seen him once again take centre-stage in Serie A.

Terracciano has become a key figure in Cremonese’s three-man defence and has already made 13 appearances (scoring two goals) in the league and Coppa Italia. If he helps the Lombardy club stay in Serie A, he will guarantee Milan a return of €3-4m.
