Christopher Nkunku has not really hit the ground running at AC Milan. However, this is understandable for a few reasons.
Pre-season is one of the most important things on the calendar, and when you are not given the chance to fully prepare for the upcoming season, it is easy to see. For Nkunku, this was the case, and it is noticeable.
Nkunku’s problem
As Calciomercato.com write, the Frenchman has struggled for Milan so far, and it is down to a lack of fitness and sharpness. His summer was upended by his transfer situation, with Chelsea effectively banishing him from their preparations.
It is this that Massimiliano Allegri referred to after the Juventus game, looking to defend him and Rafael Leao.
“The important thing is that they improve their fitness. Nkunku arrived late, Leao was out for 45 days.”

Now, though, Didier Deschamps can help the Rossoneri. There are some injuries in the French squad, so Nkunku was called up by the French National Team coach, despite his lack of minutes with his new club.
The coach hopes to give the attacker confidence, and the call-up alone is a sign of belief in his ability, especially with him waiting almost a full year for another call-up. France’s games offer an opportunity to Nkunku, who should grab it with both hands. Something which would make everyone smile.
