Lorenzo Torriani once again had a preseason as a protagonist with the senior squad, but has also once again vanished off radar.
According to Calciomercato.com, Torriani is one of those names that Milan would like to hand over the keys to in the future. Yet, there are regular moments when the young goalkeeper slips out of view from the first team, only sporadically returning later.
Clearly, it’s not easy when you have a top player in the position like Mike Maignan in front of you, but at the same time the teenager is not happy about his lack of use under Massimiliano Allegri. The coach has picked the Frenchman every time, even in the Coppa Italia against Bari and Lecce
Torriani impatient
Last summer, before acquiring Dominik Greif from Real Mallorca for €4m, Lyon knocked on Milan’s door for Torriani at the specific request of Paulo Fonseca.
The Portuguese coach saw him first hand in his six months with the Rossoneri, and there was talk of a €10m bid, but it was never considered by the management. Torriani had just renewed his contract with Milan until 2030, a significant sign of confidence.

Marco Sportiello’s departure seemed like a move paving the way for Torriani to take a next step, but then Igli Tare decided to bring in Pietro Terracciano as the deputy goalkeeper behind Maignan. Torriani was forced to drop down to Milan Futuro, and has played six games in Serie D.
Maignan’s deal expires at the end of the season, and so the subject of his potential heir between the posts has once again become topical. Could there be an internal solution, like Torriani? Or will a goalkeeper be signed from outside the walls of Milanello again?
The latter option is clearly the favourite, so much so that the Rossoneri management are already evaluating various options. The door could open for Torriani to go on loan, allowing him to play more. The mistake he made last summer cannot be repeated: he needs consistent playing time.
