The Supercoppa Italiana can certainly help many things, but AC Milan will be looking to use the purse quickly if they go the whole way.

Tomorrow night, Milan will face Napoli in the first game of their Supercoppa Italiana defence. Had they beaten Bologna in the Coppa Italia, they would have faced Inter again, but leaving it for the final again may bring back positive memories.

The Rossoneri must get there first, though, before they concern themselves with any ‘what ifs’ about who they may face in the final.

Why the Supercoppa matters

Beyond the silverware, there is also another important reason to get to the final, at the very least: the finances. As Calciomercato.com write, the winner of the tournament will receive €9.5 million in prize money. Though this can be increased to €11m if they face the local Super Cup champions, which has not happened in recent years.

Coming second still brings in a respectable €6.7m for the defeated finalists, and for going out in the semi-final, the teams will receive €2.4m. A €7m difference between the winners and losers is significant, and it could be put to use immediately, with the Rossoneri looking to complete the signing of Niclas Fullkrug.
