CM: Galliani return idea fuelled after Nkunku incident and Gravina’s comments

AC Milan were hard done by the officials last night, when Christopher Nkunku was fouled in the box, but no penalty was taken after VAR.

Nkunku goes down not once but twice in Sunday’s game, with both incidents fairly obvious penalties. However, Milan were left with nothing but a red card for Massimiliano Allegri. An understandable reaction.

Now, less than 24 hours later, Gabriele Gravina has spoken about the incident to Radio Rai and admitted the fault in the decision, as Calciomercato.com relays.

“This is an obvious mistake. But when we talk about technology, we move forward and don’t go back to the past. Technology has greatly reduced the percentage of errors: just look at those cases in which referees, without technology, are in doubt and clearly seek confirmation.”

Reaction from the fans

As the report continues, the fans are now being more vocal than ever about the return of Adriano Galliani. Rumours about a return have been swirling for some time now, and his attendance last night has only strengthened things.

So, the fact that he has witnessed such an error, which in different circumstances could have proved significant, adds to the need for his return. Gravina’s own admission of VAR’s fault is where someone like Galliani can stamp their mark.

Last season, Paulo Fonseca faced a large fine for making comments about officiating. Perhaps, these words coming from someone of Galliani’s influence could actually have an effect.
