CM: “I will leave with my head held high” – Icardi sends cryptic message amid Milan links

Mauro Icardi’s name has emerged as a potential option for AC Milan ahead of the January window, and now he has made a cryptic statement.

As Calciomercato.com report, the suggestion of Icardi joining Milan has begun circulating within the management. The former Inter striker – now a Galatasaray player – has a contract with the Turkish club that expires at the end of the season, with no renewal in sight.

It’s clear that the Argentine striker is also starting to evaluate his future, but he decided to clarify his position via a story on his official Instagram profile, addressing the rumours circulating about his relationship with Galatasaray.

“I understand that my name is ‘selling’ and that some Turkish ‘journalists’ want people to believe that the club called me to inform me of the ‘non-renewal’ of my contract… but not only did no one call me, not even my agent,” he said.

“Do they want to pass off as news something that is NOT news, given that my contract expires in June 2026, just to cover up yesterday’s defeat? I won’t allow them to use my image for that.

“Rest assured, when my contract expires, I will leave with my head held high, and in the hypothetical case that I leave before then, it will be solely and exclusively my decision, no one else’s. I send you a kiss. You still have Icardi for a few more months. Enjoy me because then you will miss me.”

The Milan links

As Matteo Moretto reported in one of the latest videos on Fabrizio Romano’s channel, Icardi has been offered to Milan. The Rossoneri remain in pursuit of a No.9 who can guarantee goals, but everything hinges on a possible sale of Santiago Gimenez in January.

The Argentine would certainly fit the bill of being a prolific striker. He has played 219 games in Serie A in his career with Sampdoria and Inter, with 121 goals and 31 assists.  At present, though, it seems that Icardi is not a priority for Milan, likely because of his age and salary.

Napoli’s Lorenzo Lucca and West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrug are on the list, but as mentioned everything depends on the exit of Gimenez. The Mexican has made it clear through his agent Rafaela Pimenta that he wishes to stay.
