In recent weeks, there have been an increasing number of reports suggesting that Thiago Silva could finally return to AC Milan.
Calciomercato.com report that the Milan management have been talking about Thiago Silva’s possible romantic return. It seemed like a dead end at first, but as Massimiliano Allegri’s squad continues to get hit by injuries – Matteo Gabbia the most recent – it could reignite at any moment.
Just what Allegri ordered
We start with a premise: Milan are looking for a versatile central defender with international experience who can provide leadership to the defensive line currently comprised of Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic, De Winter and Odogu.
As reported by Brazilian media and later confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, Thiago Silva has decided to leave Fluminense with immediate effect meaning he will be available on a free transfer. He wants to return to Italy to play in a top league ahead of the 2026 World Cup, and to be closer to his family.
He ticks some boxes for Milan, too. Silva plays diligently both in a three-man defence (as the middle man or on the outside) and in a four-man defence as one of the pairing on both the right and left. His versatility has made him one of the most complete and strong defenders of his generation.

His career speaks for itself. He won silverware with Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. His many years and multiple high-level experiences in Europe have made him increasingly become a leader and a guide for those around him.
For Milan, Thiago Silva could be guiding light in the backline, someone to set the standards in every training session. He is the first to arrive and last to leave, even at 41, which is the same that can be said for Luka Modric too.
Lastly (and this is not to be underestimated), it’s worth considering that Thiago Silva already knows about playing at Milan, given his previous experience from 2009 to 2012. He would have no problem settling in, and he knows Allegri well too.
