CM: Mateta crossed off Milan’s list – the summer No.9 options from Kean to Panichelli

AC Milan did not end up signing Jean-Philippe Mateta on deadline day, so now they will look to land the right striker in the summer.

As Calciomercato.com report, the last 48 hours have seen practically everything happen. Milan agreed a deal worth over €30m with Crystal Palace for Mateta on the penultimate day of the window, but then in the last few hours they walked away following multiple consultations over knee issues.

Who now?

Massimiliano Allegri will have to make a virtue of necessity in this second half of the season. The attack is full of issues at present: Leao has pubalgia, Pulisic has iliopsoas bursitis, Fullkrug has a toe problem, Gimenez has an ankle problem, and Nkunku is still adapting to Serie A.

The Rossoneri management are working on a striker for the summer and the name at the top of the list remains Dusan Vlahovic, who will leave Juventus in July upon the expiration of his contract. The issue is that his entourage are asking for €10m in commissions, making it far from a ‘free transfer’.

Joaquin Panichelli is seen as a highly intriguing prospect by Milan too. He has 11 goals in 20 Ligue 1 appearances for Strasbourg this season. Milan have already contacted the Argentine’s agents and knows they will also need to speak with Chelsea, who have a say given the multi-club model.

Particular attention is also being paid to the movement surrounding Moise Kean. The Italian striker is set to leave Fiorentina this summer and is a top choice for Allegri, who would have been happy to welcome him in the winter. However, some big offers could come from Saudi Arabia.
