AC Milan have held initial talks over a move to sign Weston McKennie on a free transfer, according to a report.

McKennie has been one of the best performing players for Juventus this season, with four goals and three assists in 23 Serie A appearances, plus three goals in eight Champions League games. He has been particularly good under Luciano Spalletti, forcing the management to reflect.

Renewal or Rossoneri?

As Calciomercato.com write, McKennie currently has a €2.5m net per year deal with Juventus and intends to improve his salary. The Bianconeri are ready to offer the former Schalke star a three-year contract extension with a salary of €4m net per year to keep him.

However, it seems that the USA international ha a big market, because clubs from Serie A, Ligue 1, La Liga, the Premier League, Super Lig and MLS are all interested. Hence, the need for Juve to make a serious offer.

February is a month of reflection and evaluation, and a phase where clubs often explore free transfer opportunities. In Milan’s case, they are looking at Leon Goretzka, and McKennie has also been added to the list.

Informal contacts have reportedly been held in recent days to further explore the midfielder’s situation. Massimiliano Allegri’s esteem is a key factor, as is his long-standing friendship with his compatriot Christian Pulisic.

Milan have gathered detailed information and will evaluate whether to make an offer to McKennie’s camp in the coming days. Inter and Roma are also showing strong interest in him, while he could also renew with Juve.
