Many injuries were picked up during the international break and for AC Milan, some of their stars were sidelined. Moving forward, the Rossoneri have to put their foot down.
As highlighted by Calciomercato.com, Milan have paid an extremely high price during the latest international break, just like a few more clubs. It’s not exactly surprising, though, as there are some many games for players to feature in these days and it’s not getting any better.
Milan and Barcelona were the most affected clubs in Europe’s top-five leagues, as the report continues, and they have both voiced their irritation about the injuries – directly or indirectly – while also aiming jabs at the national teams.
In the Rossoneri’s case, above all, they are upset with USA’s coach Mauricio Pochettino for failing to protect Christian Pulisic. The star struggled with an ankle injury that the American staff was aware of, and still he played, while France underestimated the severity of Adrien Rabiot’s calf injury.
Milan must put their foot down
It’s clear that Milan, along with clubs like Barcelona, will have to change their stance on the international breaks moving forward. Paris Saint-Germain, for example, withheld Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue from international duty after disagreeing with Le Bleus’ medical staff.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, called Kylian Mbappe back after the game against Azerbaijan and thus prevented him from featuring in the Iceland clash. Drastic decisions, but also ones that are characterised by common sense. Milan should do this too.
