CM: Milan not panicking about €38m Nkunku investment despite slow start – the reasons

It has not been the best of starts to life at AC Milan for Christopher Nkunku, but the management have no regrets about signing him.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Nkunku has made eight appearances across all competitions so far in 2025-26, racking up 281 minutes and one goal in the Coppa Italia against Lecce, plus an assist for Alexis Saelemaekers in the most recent league match against Parma.

Nkunku’s start to his Milan career has certainly not been exciting. The former Chelsea man is paying the price for his hard work last season – with the Club World Cup played until July – and his limited use over the last two years.

No panic from Milan

Massimiliano Allegri started him from the start for both Roma and Parma, but he hasn’t been rewarded with performances and with the kind of end product you might expect.

The €38m investment plus €4m in bonuses certainly weighs on everyone’s opinion of Nkunku. The Frenchman, according to Milan’s management, is a very strong player and will be useful to Allegri this season.

The initial difficulties are linked to his adjustment to a different style of football compared to English and German ones and to his physical condition, which is still far from 100%. Tare has no regrets about choosing him at the end of August, when fans were expecting a true No.9.
