Despite only joining last summer, AC Milan are already set to lose money on Emerson Royal, showing a failure in the mercato.
There is something about Milan’s 2024/25 summer that still haunts everyone to this day. It was just very bad. From the players to timings, the Rossoneri failed to really improve the squad in the time allocated to do so, and spent poorly.
This carried through to the January mercato, where signings were questioned; both in terms of value and timings.
Emerson’s role
One of the weirder signings was Emerson, who joined after a few weeks of the Diavolo going back and forth over the idea of signing a full-back. Eventually, €15 million was spent on the defender, with him also receiving a €2.5m net salary.

Now, a year on, the club are set to record a loss on him, with a move to Flamengo looking increasingly likely after a bit of a hectic few days regarding his future.
Reports this morning state that he will leave for almost €10m, hence a €5m loss on the books, as Calciomercato.com verifies. However, this loss may actually help, as the club will now be able to spend more money elsewhere, with another midfielder, striker and right-back sought.
