AC Milan are making a ‘decisive move’ to try and sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, according to a report.
In the past few weeks, reports have emerged from various sources suggesting that Goretzka is a concrete target for Milan in view of the summer, when he will be available on a free transfer and could replace Luka Modric.
New talks held
According to Calciomercato.com, in the last few hours new contacts have taken place between the Rossoneri board and the Roof agency (the same one that represents Niclas Fullkrug) to get an update on the situation of the German.
Igli Tare is a great admirer of the Bochum-born midfielder and is looking to repeat the Luka Modric coup he pulled off last summer. He wants a player with experience, class and leadership, to help a club hungry to return to being the number ones in Italy.
Tare wants Goretzka, and Goretzka appreciates Milan’s advances. The contact revealed the Bayern man’s appreciation for Milan’s project, a crucial first step toward concrete discussions regarding a move to Massimiliano Allegri’s side.

Nothing is advanced at the moment, but Milan feel they are firmly in the running for Goretzka and do not want to leave any stone unturned. The main obstacle the Diavolo will have to overcome is the fierce competition from rivals who have stronger financial capabilities.
For example, Tottenham Hotspur were the first to register interest in Goretzka, intent on revamping their midfield. The real threat lies with Spanish clubs: Barcelona and Atlético Madrid have asked about the 30-year-old too.
In recent contacts, Milan have not deemed Goretzka’s potential salary demands to be beyond their budget. Clearly a pay cut will be needed though, and the commission issue will be discussed in more detail if wages are agreed.
