Inter and AC Milan take to the field at San Siro tonight with two attacking units that probably could not be further apart.
As Calciomercato.com report, the two formations are mirror images, a 3-5-2 borrowed from Simone Inzaghi’s management on Cristian Chivu’s side and a 3-5-2 shaped by Massimiliano Allegri’s arrival on the other. However, there are some big differences tactically, including the front twos.
Juxtaposed duos
For years now , Inter have been among the few teams able to afford fielding two strikers. from Lautaro/Lukaku (or Dzeko) to Lautaro/Thuram, not forgetting the recent additions of Bonny and Pio Esposito, the Nerazzurri’s attacking output has always relied on the goals of strikers.
Admitedly, they have been well-supplied by Dimarco, Calhanoglu, Barella and Dumfries, and supported by the runs of the midfielders. Thuram has returned from injury to partner Lautaro, and both are a thorn in Milan’s side when it comes to the derby.
Milan on the other hand lack a strong centre-forward, given that Santiago Gimenez remained somewhat of a mystery and the Giroud-like profile mentioned by Tare never arrived. Thus, it will be left up to Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic to produce output.
Pulisic, returning from injury just like Thuram, has contributed four goals just like Leao. The American and the Portuguese combine for eight league goals, whereas Lautaro and Thuram have only seven. In a league where strikers struggle so much, the team that theoretically even have one has a better front two.
