CM: ‘Why not Milan’ – Tonali holds Italy preference despite Newcastle’s €90m price tag

Sandro Tonali has made it his priority to return to Serie A if he does leave Newcastle, but AC Milan risk being bystanders.

As Calciomercato.com recall, Matteo Moretto reported on Fabrizio Romano’s Italian YouTube channel that there was some talk about a deadline day move for Tonali, but Newcastle have never opened up to selling the midfielder.

There was not enough time to reflect on what would have been a controversial sale, but starting this summer, Tonali’s future will be up for discussion. Several clubs are poised and ready to explore the idea of signing him prior to 2026-27.

Premier League teams are willing and able to invest significant sums in both Tonali’s transfer fee and his salary. Moretto emphasises that the Magpies will theoretically ask for a fee even higher than €90m to sell.

Italy calls

In this discussion, it is worth remembering the words of agent Beppe Riso to Tuttosport: “Newcastle is having a hard time letting go of Sandro and he wants to take the club to the Champions League. These transfer market discussions will take place later.

“We’ll see how the season ends and then we’ll evaluate what to do. Juventus? There is no preference at the moment. Newcastle couldn’t let go of him now and it wasn’t the case to move, also because Sandro is very attached to the club. In the summer we’ll evaluate and decide what to do.”

If Italy were in his future again, where could Tonali play? The midfielder’s priority would be to return to play in Serie A and ‘why not Milan’, Calciomercato add. The Rossoneri have ‘never had any contact over a romantic return, also due to Newcastle ‘s high demands’, at least for now.

The entire Juventus management believe Tonali’s name is perfect for the Bianconeri’s future. The 25-year-old player remains the dream, and next summer could be the perfect time to make the move.
