Lorenzo Colombo has labelled his move to Genoa as the biggest opportunity of his career to date, given the structure of the deal.
Colombo returned to Milan from Empoli after they were relegated to Serie B, but it quickly became apparent that he would not be staying for long. The Italian left the pre-season tour early to fly back to Italy for a medical ahead of a move to Genoa.
The deal was made official a few days ago. It is believed the buy-out clause is set at €10m and it will become an obligation if certain conditions are met. Genoa have to avoid relegation, while the striker might also need to reach a certain number of goals and appearances.
‘The biggest opportunity I’ve had so far’
Colombo gave an interview to the newspaper Il Secolo XIX in which he shed some light on the decision to join Genoa and why he believes that it is such a big chance for him. MilanPress relayed his comments.
Why Genoa?
“I chose Genoa because I think the conditions here are right for a striker. The fans are passionate, there are talented and quality players, and there’s a style of play that’s suited to developing and bringing out the best in a striker.

“Then there’s another important aspect for a player like me: the faith the club has shown in me right away. I’ve been loaned out many times, but never before has a club made it an obligation to buy, a strong signal that gives me great motivation.”
Did Patrick Vieira play a part?
“He didn’t need to say much, I immediately said yes to the offer he made me because how can you say no to a team like Genoa? Milan is Milan, a great club, I grew up there and learned so much. But Genoa is the biggest opportunity I’ve had so far and I want to seize it.”
What is your target?
“Double figures, I haven’t reached that yet. And only with that can I dream of making the national team.”
