Como boss Cesc Fabregas has likened his upcoming duel against Massimiliano Allegri to ‘Serie D against the Champions League’.
Fabregas is admittedly still cutting his teeth as a head coach given that this is his second full season in charge of a team in the top flight, whereas Allegri has been coaching at the highest level for nearly two decades and has seven Scudetti to his name. They have very different ideas on how to play football.
What Fabregas is doing with Como is turning a lot of heads. His aesthetically pleasing brand of football has led them on a charge towards the European places, and they have genuine aspirations of playing continental football for the first time ever.
‘There is no comparison’
The former Barcelona and Chelsea midfielder spoke at a press conference on the eve of the game between Como and Milan at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. His comments were relayed by MilanPress.
For the first time, you will face Allegri…
“On the bench, it’s the Champions League against Serie D. Allegri has shown everything as a coach, I’ve done nothing. There’s no comparison. We need to put in a good performance, maintain consistency in our game, and continue to grow.
“It’s very important for us. Milan have impressive players like Rabiot, Modric, Fofana and Pulisic – the list is long. We’ll have to be the stronger Como if we want to win.”
What do you think of Milan? Are they a title contender?
“With Allegri and these players, Milan can do well. It will depend on them: the more they win, the better their chances of winning the Scudetto. I don’t really believe in whether it’s difficult or not.
“They’re still strong despite the two draws. It’s an incredibly important match: I don’t believe in a small or big team, we all have the motivation to do well.”
