Carlo Pellegatti has criticised the way that the AC Milan management handled Mike Maignan’s renewal, in particular revising their offer.
Usually a decisive Man of the Match performance from your captain to win a derby is only positive, but the headlines that have emerged since Maignan’s heroics against Inter have painted a worrying picture about how long his magic will still be around for.
Milan have backed themselves into a corner somewhat, after apparently reaching a verbal agreement earlier in the year to extend his deal at €5m net per season, only to then pull that offer back and revise it downwards.
‘No words to describe it’
Pellegatti gave an interview to MilanNews and he was asked what he would do about Maignan’s future, suggesting that things look bleak regarding the chances of a renewal because of events earlier in the year.

“I have no doubt whatsoever. The management’s attitude and behaviour toward goalkeeper Maignan was completely wrong. When he was in trouble, instead of supporting him, they wanted to take away a million from him.
“When the deal was made, they agreed on five million until 28/29. We have one of the best goalkeepers in the world, one of the top three in the world according to Allegri, and losing him for free, or even not renewing his contract – there are no words to describe it – is unbearable to me.”
