Conte mentions Milan in Scudetto assessment but loses cool after Como loss: “Serious problems”

Antonio Conte was not happy about Napoli being eliminated from the Coppa Italia, and once again spoke about the Scudetto race.

Conte’s side experienced another bad night on Tuesday as they were beaten on penalties by Como in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. It means that the club from the lake have reached their first cup semi-final in 40 years, with Jean Butez the penalty hero after a 1-1 draw.

Cesc Fabregas’ beat the Serie A champions 7-6 on spot kicks, with Butez denying Stanislav Lobotka’s penalty to silence the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and to secure a two-legged semi-final meeting against fellow Lombardy side Inter.

Conte spoke to the media after the defeat against Como and he was asked about what this means for a potential title push, given there is now only Serie A to focus on. His words were relayed by MilanPress, and he was once again spiky.

“We’re nine points behind, we have serious problems, and you’re talking about the Scudetto. Inter are on the move, there’s Milan, Juventus, Roma, and Como themselves. What are we talking about? We’re taking it game by game, trying to be serious in our questions and comments,” he said.

“We won the Supercoppa and a Scudetto in a year and a half. It’s a shame because you build up to seasons where you want to do more, and ultimately, we’re doing it with the squad we have now. Any team would struggle in our situation.”
