CorSera: Allegri gets his Rabiot wish but remains without – who else was needed

2 days ago 6

Massimiliano Allegri was dreaming of a few things this summer, and only one of the criteria has been filled by AC Milan.

Dusan Vlahovic and Adrien Rabiot, two names that the summer was built around. Allegri did eventually get his dream, but he is still left without, with Vlahovic not arriving. However, the biggest issue may actually be the defence.

Halfway there?

This morning’s edition of Corriere della Sera writes, via MilanNews, that the Italian can be happy; he can welcome back Rabiot. The midfield looks fantastic, and there is a range of different profiles that Allegri can now utilise.

However, he was also left asking for an experienced defender to arrive, and those pleas went unheard. Joe Gomez and Manuel Akanji were both options, but neither joined the Diavolo, so the objective changed.

Instead of experience, the Rossoneri went to the other end of the spectrum and completed a move for David Odogu. In the future, it could be a masterstroke, but Allegri needed a here-and-now defender, not someone who could be fantastic far down the road.

Perhaps you can also make an argument that a physical striker is still needed. However, Allegri could end up appreciating the players that he has and moulding them into his own stars. We shall have to wait and see.
