After three consecutive league wins, AC Milan secured their fourth in a row thanks to a resounding 3-0 victory over Lecce in the Coppa Italia.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) write this morning that the result was never in doubt, as evidenced by Milan hitting the post four times. In the end it turned into a bit of a training drill, but the paper have put forward two considerations to make.

The first concerns the league. On Sunday at San Siro, the high-stakes battle with Napoli will take place. Combined with the away trip to Juventus seven days later, this will provide the first verdict on Milan’s true ambitions.

Are Massimiliano Allegri’s fans serious contenders for a Champions League spot or could they even gate crash the Scudetto race? Getting there on the back of four wins – above all, without conceding a goal – is ideal.

The second reflection is on the attacking duo of Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku. The former scored for the Rossoneri after four months without a goal, and they hope is that plenty more now follow. The latter closed the match with a scissor kick early in the second half.

While awaiting Rafael Leao’s return, which could perhaps come as early as Sunday, Allegri – who was still in the stands yesterday due to the two-game suspension he received after the 2024 Coppa Italia final while at Juventus – can take the positives from two forwards who scored.
