CorSera: ‘Finally Nkunku’ – Allegri can smile but further proof is needed

AC Milan have a few reasons to smile after the win against Hellas Verona, but the biggest is Christopher Nkunku’s breakout.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) ask the question this morning: has Nkunku’s season finally turned around? This is certainly the hope of Massimiliano Allegri and all Milan fans after the Frenchman’s brace yesterday against Verona at San Siro.

The former Chelsea man – who arrived on a permanent deal in the summer for around €40m – has finally made his mark in Serie A and is now looking to the future with a little more confidence. After the match, he stated: “I’m back after an injury, I needed time.”

Inflated at last

Nkunku will now have to repeat his balloon celebration more often. In recent weeks, there have been plenty of rumours about his future away from Milan, who would prefer not to sell him in January however.

After months as a ghost, the former Leipzig man hopes to have finally sparked into life to become a key player for Allegri, who said after the game: “Nkunku is a very sensitive guy, he broke free with the penalty and then scored a goal that is within his reach.”

Max can also smile about returning to winning ways without conceding against a small team. The 2-2 draw against Sassuolo had angered the Livorno coach, who wasn’t at all happy with his team’s defensive performance in recent weeks.

Yesterday, Milan returned to the compact form they had at the start of the season, so much so that Mike Maignan was practically not needed. Besides the win and Nkunku’s brace, the clean sheet is certainly another piece of good news for Allegri.
