CorSera: Füllkrug wants to keep playing but caution prevails – when he should return

AC Milan suffered an injury blow they could have done without, as Niclas Füllkrug has sustained a broken toe.

As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) reports this morning, the trip to face Fiorentina was not only negative for Milan in terms of the result, but also in terms of injuries. In addition to Strahinja Pavlovic , who received nine stitches to his head after the nasty collision with Pietro Comuzzo, Füllkrug fractured his toe.

An untimely blow

The papers adds that the fracture has already been repaired and that the German striker, Milan’s only signing so far in the winter transfer window, is pushing to return to the field immediately. Despite this, Füllkrug will miss the next two games against Como and Lecce.

He is expected to return to the field in the game after Lecce, against Roma away (January 25). This is bad news for Max Allegri, who currently doesn’t have Rafael Leao in top form due to adductor strain, which the medical staff are worried about becoming pubalgia (a lower back problem).

The Portuguese will have to grit his teeth, even if fortunately in Florence there was the return of Christopher Nkunku who had missed two games (Cagliari and Genoa) due to a foot injury, which came after his first two league goals.

The Frenchman scored the equaliser at the Franchi in the final minutes, and has often been at the centre of transfer rumours in recent weeks (Fenerbahçe above all), but now Fullkrug’s injury has surely put an end to this speculation.
