AC Milan are having a very strange season when it comes to the contrast in results against sides at the top and bottom ends.
As Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress) point out, Milan are a real rollercoaster in 2025-26 so far uner Massimiliano Allegri. They were top of the table until Sunday’s results, and their last league defeat was all the way back in round on of the season, which suggests that things are very rosy.
Yet, when they face the teams that they are expected to beat on paper – and football of course is played on the field – they seem to hit a block of sorts. They claimed just two points out of the nine available against Cremonese, Pisa and Sassuolo, all newly promoted sides and all games at home.
Then, if you look at the top four in the standings, the trend reverses dramatically from relegation pace to Scudetto pace. The Rossoneri have played each of Napoli, Roma and Inter, obtaining nine points out of nine against them.
The problem is certainly defensive, because against the newcomers to Serie A they have conceded six goals at home (two per game), while against the big teams mentioned above they have conceded one goal and from a penalty, that of Kevin De Bruyne.
