CorSera: Milan begin looking for Thiaw’s replacement – the three main targets

Malick Thiaw’s time at AC Milan will soon be coming to an end, and now the management must think about how to replace him.

According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Thiaw is leaving Milan and will move to Newcastle in the next few hours for around €40m, including bonuses. With only Matteo Gabbia, Strahinja Pavlovic and Fikayo Tomori in the squad, a new centre-back signing will be needed.

The three names

Milan are considering three names above all: Fiorentina’s Pietro Comuzzo, Parma’s Giovanni Leoni, and Genoa’s Koni De Winter. Milan are considering one of the two Italian players, but they cost more than €30m.

Furthermore, there’s certainly no shortage of competition for either player: two German clubs are interested in the Viola centre-back, and Manchester United were closely monitoring him yesterday during Fiorentina’s friendly at Old Trafford.

It’s no secret that Inter have been tracking Leoni for some time, but before they make a purchase, they must make a sale. Having already practically sold Thiaw, Milan are now ahead, though it won’t be easy to convince Parma, who would like to keep him for another season.

The third name on the Rossoneri’s list is De Winter, also in the Nerazzurri’s sights. He costs less than the other two, given that Genoa could sell him for around €20m. Finally, they’re also keeping an eye on foreign markets, with Milan keeping a close eye on the French and English leagues.
