AC Milan are ready to make Mike Maignan the highest paid player at the club to convince him to stay, a report claims.
According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress), Milan have submitted a draft offer to Maignan’s entourage for a contract renewal until 2029, with an option to extend it to 2030. They hope it will be the push needed to convince the goalkeeper to stay.
The paper have even outlined the details of the offer: it will be a salary of €5.5m net per year plus €1.5m in potential bonuses. He would become, along with Rafael Leão, the highest-paid player in the squad. Leao though earns only €5m as a base, so in theory Maignan would leap frog him.
A critical meeting
As the paper explains, a very important and perhaps decisive meeting is expected next week to resolve the matter. Within Milan, everyone is doing their part to convince the Frenchman to stay.

It’s worth remembering that last spring, there was a breakdown in relations between the parties over the offer made by the club, which was later retracted. Igli Tare and Massimiliano Allegri – as well as his team-mates – have gone about trying to thaw things.
The coach is trying everything he can to persuade his captain to stay, and there’s a moderate level of optimism at the club now. The goal is to have a definitive answer in the first few months of the year.
