AC Milan have secured Alexis Saelemaekers with a long-term contract extension, and they are now thinking about another signing in that role.

Yesterday, Milan announced the renewal of Saelemaekers until 2031, effective from July 2026. This is an important first extension to get over the line, while speculation swirls about others from Mike Maignan to Christian Pulisic.

According to Corriere della Sera (via MilanPress), the new agreement between the Rossoneri and the Belgian foresees a substantial increase in his salary, which will go from the current €1.2m net to around €3m net per season.

The management see it as a fitting reward for someone who has already made 18 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring two goals and providing three assists.

He has become an immovable starter under Massimiliano Allegri, who made it clear in the summer he wanted to keep the former Anderlecht man.

Milan have therefore secured their starter on the right flank, but the paper points out that a new signing is needed in January to help give Saelemaekers as a bit of respite.

Zachary Athekame certainly has a lot of room for improvement, but at the moment he doesn’t offer close to the same guarantees, so someone with more experience could be very useful.
