CorSera: Suffer first, then strike – Milan weather Como storm to grab three ‘golden’ points

2 hours ago 23

As has already happened several times this year, AC Milan played a terrible first half in Como, but they overturned it all in the second half.

Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) writes this morning that the opening 45 minutes was perhaps the worst of the season for Milan, who fell behind quite early and had to rely on the heroics of Mike Maignan between to posts just to stay in the contest.

As has happened several times already, Massimiliano Allegri’s men were then reborn in the second half, first equalising with a penalty from Christopher Nkunku (just before the break) and then completing the turnaround with Adrien Rabiot’s brace.

Substance over performance

With this win, the Rossoneri are keeping pace with Inter in the race for the title, and are now just three points behind them. Yesterday’s victory was Milan’s 19th consecutive game without defeat, and they haven’t lost since the opening match against Cremonese (the Rossoneri’s longest streak since 2005).

Allegri’s side once again demonstrated great character, resilience and the ability to seize the key moments. They take home three golden points in the scheme of the standings, as they not only moved closer to te top spot but also extended their lead over fifth place.

The key players on the night were undoubtedly Maignan and Rabiot. The goalkeeper was decisive on several occasions with his saves, proving he absolutely deserves the contract renewal that seems to be getting closer.

His compatriot first won the penalty converted by Nkunku and then scored his first brace for the Rossoneri. After two draws against Genoa and Fiorentina, Milan bounced back and remain firmly in the race for the top spot in Serie A.
