Wednesday 5 November will be a historic day for the city of Milan, as the sale of San Siro to AC Milan and Inter should be completed.
As Corriere della Sera (via MN24) report this morning, the signing of the deed for the sale of the San Siro stadium and surrounding areas to the two clubs is expected to happen today, after a delay from the initially predicted date of Friday 31 October.
The Milan edition of the paper has the headline: ‘San Siro Sale: Today is the day of the deed’. They outline the financial details of the transaction: the stadium and surrounding areas will be sold to the two clubs in an operation worth €197m. Of this sum, the City of Milan will contribute €22m.
Final issues resolved
The signing of the purchase agreement was initially scheduled for the end of last week, but was postponed due to some ‘technical problems with the banks’. It has since been confirmed that Banco BPM will be the financial guarantor of the stadium purchase.
However, all the issues have been resolved in the last few hours, and today the San Siro stadium will officially change ownership, passing into the hands of the Rossoneri and Nerazzurri. This step is crucial for the area’s redevelopment project and the eventual construction of the new stadium.
Despite the deal’s closure, the legal situation remains tense. Yesterday, councillor Enrico Fedrighini filed an appeal with the Lombardy Regional Administrative Court (TAR). The appeal seeks to overturn the resolution approved by the Chamber on September 29, which gave final approval to the sale.
