AC Milan take on Genoa at San Siro in the final game of the round in Serie A, and Massimiliano Allegri will have his favourite front two again.
As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) report, Allegri can finally start the attacking duo he’d designed for Milan since the summer friendlies: Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao. They have only started once together in the league due to juxtaposed injuries, and it was the 1-0 derby win against Inter.
The most prolific pairing?
In theory, the paper adds, Pulisic and Leao could be the most deadly duo in the league. The former Chelsea player currently has eight league goals, while the Portuguese has six.
Forty-six days since their last appearance as a pairing, the two are finally ready to start together, even though both are not in top form. Both suffering from slight muscle problems that are preventing them from being fully fit, but they will play through any small discomfort.
Tonight’s match is crucial for the standings, given yesterday’s results for Inter (who won) and Napoli (who dropped points to Verona). Milan must win to get back to within one point of the Nerazzurri and slightly extend their lead over the Azzurri.
For this reason, despite the Rossoneri having four matches in the next ten days, Allegri will field all his starters. Gabbia and Pavlovic return in defence, Modric remains in midfield as does Rabiot, while the Pulisic-Leao pairing will ‘take centre stage’ up front.
