Another seasonal commitment came and went for AC Milan on Thursday night, as they exited the Coppa Italia at the last-16 stage.
As Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews) write this morning, after a misstep in their first league game against Cremonese in August and a string of consecutive positive results, Massimiliano Allegri’s Rossoneri lost to Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico and bowed out of the cup.
It’s a disappointing outcome, especially since it hasn’t been in the club’s list of honours since 2002-03. Yet, Allegri stated after the game that there is not need to be ‘depressed’, because there is still plenty to fight for this season.
Two objectives left
Milan do not have time to dwell on things: they will be in Turin on Monday to face a wounded Torino, which historically represents one of the most difficult away matches. In fact, the Rossoneri have won just one of their last 12 Serie A games at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Then there will be a series of league matches against Sassuolo, Verona, Cagliari, Genoa and Fiorentina, which will be interrupted by the trip to Riyadh for the Supercoppa Italia. These are Allegri’s two targets for the next month: stay at the top of the league, and win the Super Cup.

To achieve all this, Milan need to find another gear. Now all of the team’s energy must be channeled into the two remaining competitions. The goal is not to look too far ahead but, as mentioned, to try to take advantage of a schedule that will be free of big matches, barring the trip to the Middle East.
Next month will lead the team into the January transfer window. If they manage to maintain their position at the top, the management must also be more inclined to intervene and strengthen the squad, with unknowns about the striker situation above all.
