There has been a lot of talk in recent days about Adriano Galliani’s possible return to AC Milan, but it seems to be conditional.
It has been reported in recent days that Galliani will return to Milan for a second spell at the club, eight years after he left following Silvio Berlusconi selling to Yonghong Li. His role as Director of Football has even apparently been outlined.
Galliani’s return: An update
As of today, according to Corriere della Sera (via MilanNews), Galliani’s return to Milan is more than a suggestion, but also less than a ‘granite certainty’. Monica Colombo’s article states that this sensational possibility was suggested by Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Gerry Cardinale.
However, it is clear that it can only come true on one condition. On September 9th, the American fund Beckett Layne Ventures will have to pay the €21m needed to complete the closing for the transfer of 80% of Monza’s shares from Fininvest.

A happy ending isn’t a given, and in Brianza – already stung by the interest of investors who did not pay up when needed – they’re opting for caution. However, if the closing were to actually happen, Galliani would effectively be a professional free man.
Fininvest seem to have changed their mind about the former Milan CEO remaining on the Monza board to represent and protect the 20% stake until the full sale of the package, scheduled for July 2026. In other words, he is free to leave.
The first rumours of his return to Milan date back to mid-July, when he was in the US to attend the Club World Cup final. From a wild idea came something more concrete: the following weekend, Galliani was on Flavio Briatore’s yacht on the French Riviera, where Cardinale was also on board.

Ibra, who has had little media spotlight this year, played a key role in suggesting to Cardinale the hiring of Galliani. However, Il Condor would not be part of the club’s organisational structure and would therefore not affect the presidency of Paolo Scaroni.
So, what would Galliani’s duties be at Milan? Monica Colombo explains that he would be a top consultant with a wide range of expertise: from institutional relations to diplomatic relations with major clubs, to discussions with various top agents.
The situation will remain unchanged until September 9th, but the Rossoneri fans are already dreaming about the reuniting of the Allegri, Galliani and Ibrahimovic trio.
