AC Milan and Inter have reached an agreement with the City Council for the purchase of San Siro. However, nothing will be done just yet.
The process to find a new home has taken years, and that does not do it justice. In the past two years, there have been a number of different ideas and positions, and Milan have glided between them regularly, much to the frustration of fans.
At one point, it even annoyed the council, given that a request for a ‘San Donato Clause’ was sought. Though it seems like this project has been abandoned, with a San Siro deal agreed.
The next steps
This week, there have been several confirmations that all parties have reached an agreement, and a payment structure has already been outlined, with the parties needing to pay €77 million of the €197m agreement shortly.
Then, there are three further pay windows. However, the next question is, when will building begin?

Well, as Corriere dello Sport, via MilanNews, reports, it will not be until 2027. In 2026, there will be a study to see if the project is feasible. Then, and only then, can building begin, which is scheduled for 2027.
The new stadium and the Patroclo tunnel should be built between 2027 and 2030, whilst the San Siro is partially demolished, and safety measures will begin to take place from 2031.
Importantly, the project will not be completed until at least 2032, though it could be as late as 2035. However, this is for the complete multifunctional complex to be in operation.
