CorSport: Allegri leads Milan’s mission to finally end ‘Coppa Italia curse’

AC Milan will kick off their 2025-26 Coppa Italia campaign tonight against Bari, hoping this is the season the drought finally ends.

As reported this morning in Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress), Milan are aiming to end their ‘Coppa curse’. The Rossoneri, despite losing in last year’s final to Bologna, have finished runners-up 10 times (nine final losses and one group runner-up in the 1967-68 edition).

No one in Italy has fared worse than Milan in that particularly respect, and the Diavolo have won only five Coppa Italia titles in their history. The last season that Milan hoisted the cup was back in 2002-03, when it was in fact still played over two legs.

This year, however, Massimiliano Allegri is the head coach. With five victories in the competition he is the most successful coach in Coppa Italia history, so perhaps he is the right man to break the over 20-year hoodoo.

Milan this season will enter at the round of 32 stage, something that they have not done for a few years. It is by virtue of having finished eighth in the league last season, and of course they lost the Coppa Italia final against Bologna in Rome.
