CorSport: Internal solutions prevail – why Milan will not sign a defender

1 day ago 3

AC Milan’s management have decided not to pursue a deadline day for a central defender, according to a report.

During the winter mercato, Milan have been linked with several centre-backs, from Thiago Silva and Joe Gomez to Axel Disasi and Nathan Ake. For various reasons none of these ideas materialised, and now the department is set to stay as it is.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress), Milan considered the purchase of Disasi from Chelsea until the very last minute, but after 48 hours of waiting they decided not to proceed. For this reason, the Frenchman will go to West Ham.

The Frenchman represented the best opportunity for the directors to seize, and now finding another option is very difficult because of the limited time available. Jose Maria Gimenez and Radu Dragusin have both been linked, but it seems time will run out.

The lack of urgency is also because Koni De Winter is earning more and more playing time, convincing the manager and the club with solid performances and a goal against Roma, even playing on the left of the three-man defence.

David Odogu could also remain in the squad, despite his very limited use thus far and the possibility of a loan deal being mentioned in recent weeks.
