CorSport: Leao remains central to Milan – renewal offer prepared with positive feelings

1 hour ago 29

Rafael Leao continues to be important for AC Milan in the present, and they are considering a move to tie down his long-term future.

Massimiliano Allegri has put Rafael Leao at the centre of his project and the Portuguese has not disappointed since his return: seven games (five as a starter) with four goals and one assist as well as excellent performances.

Derby, then renewal?

The next match will be anything but trivial given that it is the first derby of the season, against Inter on Sunday night. The No.10 will start in attack alongside Christian Pulisic for the first time this season in the league, given the Portuguese’s injury followed by that of the American.

Sunday’s derby will be Leao’s 21st in all competitions, and his 13th in Serie A alone. The former Lille player’s record is six wins, four draws, and 10 defeats, with three goals and four assists.

According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress), the Milan management are considering renewing Leao’s contract which currently expires in June 2028. It is a deadline that’s not urgent, but one the Rossoneri want to extend further.

There’s no offer on the table yet, but the management are working on it. Leao, for his part, is happy in Milano and at Milan, so a renewal seems possible. There’s even talk of him becoming the captain, if Mike Maignan leaves.
