AC Milan have not given up on the idea of signing Leon Goretzka, and are keeping contacts alive to see if they can pull off the coup.
Goretzka’s fate was sealed last month when Christoph Freund – a director at Bayern Munich – did a press conference held together with coach Vincent Kompany, in which he confirmed that Goretzka will bid farewell to the German club.
Milan remain in the race
According to Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress), Milan still ‘greatly appreciate’ Goretzka, who will leave the Bavarian club on a free transfer, making him a very tempting opportunity in the eyes of several clubs around Europe.
The Rossoneri already had talks with the German’s entourage during the January transfer window to understand the feasibility of the operation, and they understood that to beat the competition it is necessary to move early.

Milan’s main rivals are Atletico Madrid, who are the team pushing perhaps the most aggressively to land the 31-year-old. However, Igli Tare and co. feel that they have made their move in advance, and will try get the former Schalke 04 star locked in for the summer.
Goretzka has had some injury issues in recent season, but not in 2025-26. He has made 29 appearances and scored one goal across all competitions, thanks to the fact he has not had any major physical problems. As we know, Milan are thorough in their medicals, so this is a plus.
