CorSport: Milan looked at midfield talent Massolin before Modena move – the background

1 hour ago 31

AC Milan were keen reportedly on signing midfielder Yanis Massolin, who is currently starring for Modena in Serie B.

Today’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reveals some background on Massolin. The French midfielder arrived at Modena from Belgium but had long been followed by Italian clubs, particularly when he played for French side Clermont Foot.

The Roman newspaper states that two years ago Juventus had tried to sign him for their Next Gen team, but his fate took a different path. Milan – presumably through Geoffrey Moncada, who is always attentive to talent in France – had also inquired about him, but never materialised.

A positive start

Modena have relinquished first place in the standings for the first time this season. Monza’s victory at Pescara allowed the Brianza team – led by former Gialloblu coach Paolo Bianco – to overtake Andrea Sottil’s men by one point.

Massolin scored a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw in their last game. Having arrived quietly from Belgium, he holds no fewer than four passports: French, Algerian, Spanish and Martinique. Standing 197cm tall, some have already compared him to Adrien Rabiot.

The coaching staff are cautious and remain grounded: they know they have a talent in their hands and are protecting him, aware that some top clubs already have his name circled.
