CorSport: ‘Opportunity emerges’ – why Milan are considering a fresh attempt for Fullkrug

There is over one month until the transfer window reopens, but AC Milan have been preparing for January for many weeks now.

As Corriere dello Sport reports, there will be no huge financial outlays nor a dramatic shake-up like the ineffective one a year ago. They will look for the right opportunities, without crazy spending, to give Massimiliano Allegri the couple of players he needs to hit his targets for the season

Considering the poor contribution of of Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku, another forward could arrive. Someone with experience, ready immediately and low cost. Someone like Niclas Fullkrug, for example.

Fullkrug: The right profile?

It was Igli Tare himself who, in a press conference last June, publicly revealed the characteristics of the striker Milan were looking for. They wanted an Olivier Giroud-esque centre-forward, good in the air, strong physically and with their back to goal.

In the end, the most expensive signing of the summer became Nkunku, and the late attempts to engineer a swap deal involving Gimenez (primarily for Artem Dovbyk of Roma) fell through. The Frenchman and the Mexican so far have zero league goals, so the issue remains.

Fullkrug is a name that has been on Milan’s radar since as early as the summer of 2024. The former Borussia Dortmund man preferred to try his hand at the Premier League, partly because of Milan ‘s decision to focus entirely on Alvaro Morata.

The German made just 20 appearances in total last season and has made only six in the current campaign. His total goal tally for West Ham: three. The 32-year-old is not going through a great phase of his career, mainly due to a few muscle injuries.

In January, he could become an opportunity for Milan to get a striker on good terms with the characteristics that Allegri lacks. Evaluations, are underway and will continue in the coming weeks. Unless Gimenez and Nkunku, in the next month and a half, upset the plans.
