AC Milan being joint-second in the table has created a positive energy around the team, and a January signing could cultivate the Scudetto dream.
As Corriere dello Sport report this morning, the fact that Milan are just one point off top spot already represents a significant achievement for Massimiliano Allegri and co. The Rossoneri would like to remain close to there until March, then compete for the title at the end of the season.
However, Allegri’s squad – currently comprised of only 19 outfield players – could be improved in the January transfer window. Giving the coach two or three more players would be the right move to increase their chances of fighting for the title until the final round.
The name targeted
Santiago Gimenez and Christopher Nkunku are still on zero goals in Serie A, which is a problem. The Mexican cost €30m last January, while the Frenchman cost a whopping €40m in August. The club are confident they can recover get back to scoring, but the next couple of months are key.
If things don’t go well, the management could intervene in the transfer market, and among the players being monitored is Joaquin Panichelli, as the headline ‘Panichelli attacks’ reveals. The Argentine striker at Strasbourg has scored nine goals in 11 Ligue 1 games, and is turning heads as his agent recently admitted.

Milan have been monitoring Panichelli for several months, dating back to his time at River Plate and then later at Alaves, where he tore his knee ligament in 2023. After his recovery, he started scoring again, so much so that Strasbourg brought him to France last summer for €17m.
He’s still a young striker, but he’s making a name for himself with a steady stream of goals in Ligue 1. The 23-year-old is not the only player on Igli Tare and Geoffrey Moncada’s radar: they are also looking at Artem Dovbyk, who they attempted to get in a swap deal for Gimenez in the summer.
