Christian Pulisic and Mike Maignan continue to be decisive for AC Milan, but the management must start thinking about their futures.
As this morning’s edition of Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) reports, the contractual situations of two key players for Massimiliano Allegri have come under the microscope. Their performances have helped Milan into top spot after 14 games, but their deals do not have long left.
The captain
Pulisic is having an extraordinary season: he’s the joint-top scorer in Serie A alongside Lautaro Martinez, thanks to an incredible goal rate of one every 64 minutes.
He was decisive against Torino, Napoli, and in the derby against Inter, proving that when he’s on the pitch, Milan runs faster. Pulisic’s contract expires in 2027, with an option for 2028 that the club can trigger.
Yet, his €4m net per season salary and the fact his deal runs out at the end of next season could see the club accelerate things. No meetings have been scheduled at this time, but optimism is filtering through at Casa Milan.
The magician
The situation surrounding Maignan’s future is a lot more delicate. A gentlemen’s agreement was reached at the start of the season to continue and then part ways without controversy.
After his displays so far, Milan still want to do everything they can to keep their captain. The Rossoneri want to leverage the strength of their project, the presence of Allegri, and the experience of sporting director Igli Tare.
They will try to convince the Frenchman to renew his contract and to stay at Milan. It won’t be easy, but for a player like that, it’s worth a try.
