New coaches picking their own staff is nothing new, nor is the decision to continue with established options who have supported you for a long time. So, there were no real shocks when Allegri included Filippi in his coaching staff.

However, the wheels may have already been turning with that decision.

Filippi vital to Maignan

Filippi is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeeper coaches in Italy, if not further, and after a drop in form, Mike Maignan needed some help. So, the Italian has dedicated himself to bringing the Frenchman back to his top level.

Before the game against Lecce, it was not a case of telling him specifics, but rather reminding him of his own quality, showing his belief in the goalkeeper.

It had already been reported that his impact had been influential in Maignan’s new openness to extending his stay with the Rossoneri. However, it may be more than that.

As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews24) writes, the relationship between the pair is ‘top notch’, and the duo are working together to push the goalkeeper to new heights.

He has struck the right chord with the captain, with him seen as a perfect mentor, for his abilities to stimulate him mentally, as well as on the training pitch.

It, therefore, is not a surprise that his decision to stay has been impacted by him, and considering his fantastic rise in form, things should only keep improving.
