‘Cost and quality’ – Moretto and Romano explain how Fullkrug became Milan’s No.1 target

AC Milan are ready to accelerate to sign Niclas Füllkrug from West Ham United in January, according to reports.

Milan were after a striker anyway it seemed, but the news that Santiago Gimenez may have to undergo surgery to correct his ankle issue has only intensified the need for Massimiliano Allegri to welcome a new attacking reinforcement.

It seems increasingly like Füllkrug is the name that the management have chosen to go for. The German striker – who is getting limited playing time at West Ham p is pushing for a move to the Rossoneri.

‘Climbed the pecking order’

The sporting director Igli Tare’s aim is to lock the deal up as soon as possible. On Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Matteo Moretto revealed how Füllkrug has risen through the list of striker transfer targets.

“Füllkrug was among the names for several months ago, but he wasn’t the favourite. Then, due to a series of evaluations regarding cost and quality, he climbed the pecking order, and Igli Tare intends to secure him as soon as possible,” he said.

As for the player’s stance on the potential switch, Moretto added: “He has given it top priority and the operation would be on loan. We expect a significant acceleration in the next few days.”

Meanwhile, Fabrizio Romano also gave his take on things in his own video, explaining how the negotiations have developed from an initial conversation a couple of months ago.

“At the end of October, the player began to be offered to Milan and other Italian clubs. In recent days, Milan have shown their intention to block Füllkrug, working on a loan deal with West Ham. In short, discussions between the two clubs have begun,” he said.

“Füllkrug prefers Italy , even though he’s German and has two offers from Germany, both clubs ready to accommodate him. But when he called Milan to gather concrete information, to study how to secure him, Füllkrug gave Milan total priority.

“Milan have started discussions, regardless of what happens with Santi Gimenez. We’re working on the salary parameters, and we’re also working internally to understand the timing of this discussion.

“But I’ve been confirming Füllkrug’s name since October, a name that Milan already discussed before signing Abraham in the summer of 2024.”
