Costacurta labels Milan a ‘winning team’ after beating Cagliari: “Without taking any risks”

Billy Costacurta spoke to Sky Italia after AC Milan’s 1-0 win against Cagliari last night, and while he has been a bit critical before, he admitted that it’s hard to go against the team at this point.

Just a few days ago, following the 3-0 win against Hellas Verona, the Milan legend expressed some doubts about the build-up play. While we got to see some examples of this against Cagliari, with a pretty poor first half, the Rossoneri got the win in the end.

Speaking to Sky Italia afterwards, as transcribed by MilanNews, this is exactly what Costacurta pointed out. It’s easy to name some of the flaws of the team but at the end of the day, they are currently a winning side and remain at the top of the standings.

On the win…

“I think this team wants to win, to get back to where AC Milan belong. There was also another clean sheet, which is good news. When someone ends Cagliari’s run of form without even conceding a shot on target [basically, they did concede one], it’s a good sign. Let’s call it a winning Milan.”

On the second half…

“Milan entered the second half better than Cagliari. The goal was scored with a nice vertical pass, and there was also some luck with the slip of the defender. Then, Milan took control of the second half without taking any risks.

“It was a solid performance from the defenders and midfielders, very solid. Cagliari have never been so vain this season, so congratulations to Milan,” he stated.

Genoa are up next for the Rossoneri, scheduled for Thursday evening, and the next game after that is against Fiorentina on Sunday. In other words, six points are at stake next week and a lot could change depending on the outcome of those games.
